The hydraulic ram of Biarritz

In 1930 in Biarritz, Basque Country, a place well-known for its surfing spots, Paul Grasset, a civil engineer had an idea to harness the energy produced by the waves. He invented a system composed by an hydraulic ram which used the energy of waves to send water through a pipe, up until an elevated tank.
The potential energy of this elevated water was then used to produce electricity through turbines.
This heritage is now abandoned and can be visited by “urban exploration” amateurs.
